U-Value performance

THERMALEX^TM has a basic u-value of
0.276 w/sqm K. The exterior cladding of choice has no impact to the u-value computation as it lies on the outside of the ventilated cavity which provides the weathering defence.

However, even better thermal performance can be achieved by applying internal finishes which will contribute to lower u-values.
Illustrated are two such options with their corresponding u-value calculations.

 

 

 

sound performance

 

 

THERMALEX^TM significantly increases acoustic comfort levels through the properties of its construction:

 

 

 

• EXTERNALLY PLACED CAVITY - although primarily designed for weather protection, provides the first line of defence in sound reduction.
• INSULATION LAYER - thick mineral fibre (180mm), densely packed, contributes good sound deadening to the wall sandwich.
• INTERNAL SHEATHING - heavy, dense cement particle board, 25mm thick, contributes acoustic mass.

 

fire performance

The composite of materials used in a THERMALEX^TM construction will vary and be affected by the choices of external cladding and internal finish. The three main THERMALEX^TM components, ie. mineral fibre insulation, cement particle internal sheathing panels and aluminium extrusions have a minimal fire reaction:

 

• Mineral fibre insulation - one of the few insulation products to be classified as non-combustible
• Cement particle internal sheathing panels, 25mm thick - this product is extremely difficult to ignite and does not contribute to the fire load due to its high cement content. It is certified class '0'.

 

airtightness performance

THERMALEX^TM is designed to meet Building Regulation airtightness requirements:

 

• The stack & rack principle of the internal sheathing allows the joints between the panels to be effectively sealed on their edges, with a suitable adhesive mastic, as they are being put in place.
• The THERMALEX^TM wall plane becomes airtight and sealed in the correct place - on the inside surface. There is no split responsibility or doubt regarding this procedure. Airtightness is delivered as part of the THERMALEX^TMsystem.
